AA ROBOTICS TAKES TO THE ROAD

Robot-based flexible machine constructor AA Robotics will demonstrate the benefits of DENSO assembly robots and Cognex vision systems during a touring UK roadshow designed to show the speed, repeatability and small footprints of assembly robots and the benefits of vision systems. The roadshow will be visiting Milton Keynes, Newport, Nottingham, Co Durham and Cannock.

"The flexibility, accuracy and speed of DENSO robots have to be seen to be believed," says Neil Billingham, General Manager at AA Robotics. "We're going to be demonstrating just how effective robot technology can be in reducing lead times when replacing traditional mechanical pick-and place systems."

AA Robotics demonstrations will include a 4-axis robot loading a 0.7mm diameter pencil lead into a mechanical pencil and a 6-axis robot populating an electronic circuit board with LEDs in a display of flexibilty and compliance.

DENSO, a Toyota F1 team sponsor, will be giving away Silverstone tickets during the roadshow which entitle the holders to attend a test event where they can meet the Toyota F1 team and drivers.

"Toyota F1 cars are a bit like DENSO robots," says Neil, "Fast, very precise and super lightweight. But they're a lot more expensive!"

DENSO robot technology is ideal for situations where standard robots would not be accurate enough for component assembly. The working demonstration will show how, when used in conjuction with the Cognex vision system, parts can be picked from a moving conveyor and orientated for machine loading. The Cognex Checker system will identify parts leaving a vibratoey bowl feeder at high speed. Visitors to the roadshow are invited to bring along their own components to test for suitability under the camera.
